Gdańsk travel tips
Have a picnic in the greenery of the Oliwa park in Gdansk
The Oliwa Park is one of the most well-known parks in the area. The rococo Abbots' Palace, ponds with ducks, botanical gardens, a palm house, and many other sights are located on its 10-hectare territory. No wonder that is a hugely popular place to relax or picnic. To the southeast of the palace, there are so-called Whispering Caves. The place has wonderful acoustics: two people standing in each 'ear' can have a conversation even in whispers.
Go shopping at Galeria Bałtycka in Gdansk
Gdansk has several shopping centres to indulge those looking for fancy clothes or accessories. Galeria Bałtycka is the largest and one of the most popular of them. Located in Wrzeszcz, the traditional shopping district, it houses 200 shops and boutiques. Here you can find apparel, footwear, watches, jewellery, electronics, etc. After intensive shopping, you can relax at one of a dozen restaurants and coffee shops. If you rent a car, a parking lot with 1100 places may come in handy.
When in Gdansk, take a trip to the Wolf’s Lair — Hitler’s headquarters
If you are a fan of modern history and a three-hour trip doesn’t scare you, go to the Wolf’s Lair (Wilczy Szaniec in Polish). It is the largest wartime headquarters of Adolf Hitler, located deep in the Masurian Lakes. On this site, Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg unsuccessfully tried to assassinate the Nazi leader in 1944. Now the remnants of the bunker complex are open to visitors. The place is very popular — around 300,000 people come here each year!
