When is the best time to visit Madrid

Madrid's flight prices and atmosphere shift dramatically year-round. Winter offers the cheapest fares and quiet museums, spring and autumn balance pleasant weather with moderate costs, while summer brings festivals and scorching heat alongside peak prices and crowds.

High season
May - September
  • Prices: Peak rates for flights and hotels; book midweek departures and avoid festival weekends for better deals.
  • Weather: Warm to scorching 18–35 °C with minimal rain, just 3–6 rainy days per month; July-August exceed 35 °C regularly.
  • Events: San Isidro Festival (May) brings bullfights and concerts, Madrid Pride (late June-early July) draws massive crowds, and Veranos de la Villa (July-September) offers outdoor cultural performances.
Low season
January - February, November - December
  • Prices: Cheapest flights and accommodation—up to 40% less than summer peak; avoid Christmas week and New Year's for maximum savings.
  • Weather: Cool 2–12 °C with occasional frost; expect 6–8 rainy days monthly, but crisp, sunny afternoons are common.
  • Events: Three Kings Parade (January 5) fills streets with festivities, ARCO Madrid (February) showcases contemporary art, and Puerta del Sol hosts iconic New Year's Eve celebrations.
Shoulder season
March - April, October
  • Prices: Moderate fares—20–30% below summer peak; flights in October offer the sweetest deals as crowds thin out.
  • Weather: Comfortable 8–22 °C with 5–7 rainy days monthly; spring blooms in March-April, golden autumn light in October.
  • Events: Semana Santa (March-April) features solemn processions, Madrid Fashion Week (September-October) showcases runway trends, and the Autumn Festival brings theater and dance performances.

Our first flight home was delayed which resulted in us missing our second flight home and having to stay over night. as a mother whose baby was at home and away from me this was very stressful and upsetting for me as I didn't believe the airline we were booked with would help from previous reviews. myself and my partner thought we were going to have to pay 700 for new flights + accommodation. kiwi were amazing though, they sent me an email with free alternative flights home. we were going to be home a little later but at least we were getting home. then when those flights were not able to accommodate us kiwi rang me directly to sort a new flight for me. they sorted everything. I didn't have to call any airlines or pay any money other than for over night accommodation. it was so nice to have the stressful part of rebooking flights home taken away and sorted by someone else. I spoke with karen on the phone and she was so lovely to deal with. I will be booking through kiwi a lot more go
