These are the 10 best tourist attractions according to the internet

Seville’s Plaza de España tops a new ranking closely followed by Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps and Le Puy du Fou theme park in France

From the Eiffel Tower to the Great Wall of China, our planet boasts with such a large number of tourist sites that it is impossible to see them all in one lifetime.

That is why Stasher — a luggage storing startup — has decided to rate 99 most iconic tourist attractions in the world and create a list of the best ones to choose from.

The company scouted the internet and collected reviews and evaluations from major feedback providers. They took a look at TripAdvisor and Google reviews as well as Instagram engagement to set up a total score of given tourist attraction.

“We hope our research encourages individuals to combine visiting popular destinations with places that aren’t being so regularly showcased to create their own unique experiences,” said Stasher’s co-founder, Jacob Wedderburn-Day.

The best attraction in the world: Plaza de España, Seville

Scoring 8.13 points out of 10 in total, Plaza de España in Seville ranked the highest out of all locations the company evaluated.

Situated inside the Maria Luisa Park, the massive building featuring a renaissance/neo-Moorish style has been attracting tourists for its sheer scale and grandeur. It currently profits from significant growth in visitor numbers to the whole region of Andalusia that welcomed 29.5 million visitors in 2017 alone.

Plaza de España was closely followed by Matterhorn in Switzerland that scored 8.08 points in total. The high mountain in the Swiss Alpes prides itself with almost perfect TripAdvisor reviews and offers accommodation of the highest quality.

The third in the ranking was a French theme park Puy du Fou which has recently gained viral attention as it has started to use trained crows to pick up trash.

Hollywood walk of shame?

An interesting fact is that some of the most famous attractions in the world scored relatively low.

Places such as the Machu Picchu in Peru or the Hollywood Walk of Fame were ranked the lowest with the Hollywood’s popular spot scoring only 3.73 points.

“This perhaps suggests some popular sights are now overwhelmed by tourism, which, in turn, compromises many tourists’ safety and enjoyment,” Wedderburn-Day said.
