The company evaluated each carrier’s on-time performance, quality of service and claims processing
Qatar Airways is 2018’s best airline, new research by AirHelp suggests.
In their sixth annual ranking, AirHelp compared 72 airlines in three different categories to inform passengers how they perform against their competition.
The agency explored the on-time performance of each carrier, meaning that they gathered on-time arrival statistics for the last season and established a score of how likely the airline is to keep arrivals delay-free. AirHelp also compared the quality of service, both on the ground and in the air, as well as the level of carriers’ claim processing.
The last criterion “takes into account how efficiently and fairly the companies handle delay compensation claims, including the percentage of rejected claims, as well as turnaround times for processing and payouts”, AirHelp said.
From the three categories, the flight compensation company established an overall score ranging from 0 to 10. With the highest score of 9.08, Qatar Airways was named the winner for this year. Their biggest strength lies in the quality of their service as they score 9.5 point is this alone. In both on-time performance and claim processing categories, the airline scored the same figure, 8.9.
Qatar Air is followed by German carrier Lufthansa that scored the same in service quality, 9.5, but lost the lead in claims processing gaining 8.6 points, and even more in on-time performance where they had 7.6 points. Lufthansa’s overall score was 8.57.
With an overall score of 7.5 third position belongs to United Arab Emirates-based carrier Etihad Airways.

Not only did AirHelp evaluated the levels of carriers, they also examined the operation of 76 airports worldwide.
The first two categories – on-time performance and quality of service – remained the same as in the airlines’ comparisons. But instead of claims processing, AirHelp used a category of passengers sentiment as the third criterion for the ranking.
This category took into account “how passengers expressed their sentiment about their experience travelling through the airport on Twitter,” the company said.
If you want to experience the best airport in the world, your flight should head to Hamad International Airport, Doha, Qatar. With an overall score of 8.77 it was named the best airport in the world for 2018.
