Can I enter Bulgaria?

Bulgaria is open for tourism to all countries of the world. Moreover, on May 1, 2022, the government removed all COVID-19-related travel restrictions. You can travel to Bulgaria regardless of your vaccination status or origin.

Travel documents if I am vaccinated

  • From May 1, 2022, no vaccination records are required to enter Bulgaria.

Travel documents if I am unvaccinated

From May 1, 2022, no tests or other COVID-19 papers are required to enter Bulgaria.

Can I leave Bulgaria?

Currently, it is possible to leave Bulgaria. However, the Ministry of Health stresses that no travel can be considered safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Travel documents if I am vaccinated

Vaccinated travelers must have one of the following documents to leave Bulgaria:

  • The EU digital COVID certificate (to travel within the EU) 
  • Another document confirming vaccination (to travel outside the EU)

In addition, learn the requirements for showing a negative COVID-19 test result and other health declarations of your destination country in advance.

Travel documents if I am unvaccinated

If you are unvaccinated, please present one of the following documents:

  • A certificate of recovery from COVID-19 (no more than 180 days old before the day of crossing the border of a particular country)
  • A negative COVID-19 test result (the relevant period and kind of test may vary, please check the requirements of the destination country)

Is it safe to travel to Bulgaria right now?

As of May 2022, traveling to Bulgaria is safe. In addition, all COVID-19 basic requirements, including the obligation to wear masks, have been removed.

Is Sofia open for travel?

Sofia is open for travel now. Please adhere to all nationwide COVID-19 rules mentioned above. 

Do I have to quarantine if I go to Bulgaria?

You are exempt from quarantine in Bulgaria as of May 2022.

How do I get a health pass to travel to Bulgaria?

If you are traveling from the EU and Schengen Area, it would be a great benefit to install the EU Digital COVID Certificate. Travelers from outside the EU countries should carry their paper documents.

However, due to the lifting of COVID-19 regulations inside the country, you are unlikely to need these papers now.
