Can I enter Chile?

Chile is open to tourism to all countries. Nevertheless, please be aware that several COVID-19 restrictions are in place, and all foreign arrivals must follow them. 

Presently, travelers are allowed to enter Chile through the following airports: 

  • Arturo Merino Benítez (Santiago)
  • Diego de Aracena (Iquique)
  • Andrés Sabella (Antofagasta)
  • Presidente Carlos Ibáñez del Campo (Punta) Arenas

Can I enter Chile if I am vaccinated?

You can enter Chile if you are fully vaccinated. You are considered fully vaccinated if you have received both doses of a double-dose vaccination or one dose of a single-dose vaccination at least 14 days before entering Chile.

As of February 2022, six vaccine drugs are approved in Chile:

  • AstraZeneca
  • Johnson & Johnson 
  • Pfizer
  • Cansino
  • Sputnik V
  • CoronaVac

Travel documents if you are vaccinated

If you are fully vaccinated, you have to present the following documents:

  • A vaccination certificate
  • A negative PCR test result obtained 72 hours before boarding
  • A Traveler’s Affidavit completed up to 48 hours before boarding to Chile 
  • Health insurance with a minimum coverage of $30,000 for any expenses related to COVID-19

Can I enter Chile if I am unvaccinated?

As of January 30, 2022, unvaccinated travelers cannot enter Chile for tourism. You may only go to Chile if you have a residence permit in Chile or fall under special circumstances for travel, such as:

  • Family in the country
  • Work or business conditions

Who cannot enter Chile?

At present, foreign visitors cannot enter Chile if they have been present in the following countries in the last 14 days before arriving in Chile:

Can I leave Chile?

There are no tight COVID-19 restrictions for leaving Chile. 

However, please be aware that Chilean citizens and residents can leave the country for non-essential travel needs only through the following airports:

  • Arturo Merino Benítez (Santiago)
  • Diego de Aracena in (Iquique)
  • Andrés Sabella (Antofagasta)
  • Presidente Carlos Ibáñez del Campo (Punta Arenas)

Foreign travelers can leave Chile through any airport.

Can I leave Chile?

There are no restrictions on leaving Chile.

Travel documents if I am vaccinated

  • A certificate of full vaccination against COVID-19 in paper or electronic format

In addition, a COVID-19 test may also be required in certain countries. Please check the rules of your destination country in advance. 

Travel documents if I am unvaccinated

  • A certificate of recovery from COVID-19 (no more than 180 days old before the day of crossing the border of a particular country)
  • A negative COVID-19 test result (the relevant period and kind of test may vary, please check the requirements of the destination country)

Is it safe to travel to Chile right now?

Travel to Chile is safe provided you follow local COVID-19 regulations:

  • Wearing masks is mandatory indoors
  • Traveling between regions inside the country is only allowed for vaccinated people
  • Some cafes only offer take-away service

Is Santiago open for travel?

Santiago is open for travel. Please note that COVID-19 regulations in the capital are the same as in the rest of the country. 

Do I have to quarantine if I go to Chile?

All foreign arrivals over two years of age must undergo a mandatory PCR test upon arrival in Chile.

Fully vaccinated travelers must then self-isolate until a negative result is received. After receiving the result, self-isolation can be ended. 

Unvaccinated travelers have to self-isolate for seven full days and remain isolated until day eight, even if the result is negative. 

How do I get a health pass to travel to Chile?

Before departing for Chile, all foreign travelers must complete a Traveler’s Affidavit. Then you will get a QR code with all required COVID-19 documents. In addition, note that printing out a few copies may be useful while staying in Chile.
