Can I enter Estonia?

You can enter Estonia. However, please be aware that Estonia has enacted certain COVID-19 restrictions that vary depending on your vaccination status and departure country.

Can I enter Estonia if I am vaccinated?

You can enter Estonia if you are vaccinated. You are considered vaccinated if you have received a complete vaccination course at least 14 days before arriving in Estonia.

As of March 2022, any vaccine drug approved in your country is accepted in Estonia.

Travel documents if you are fully vaccinated or recovered and traveling from the EU and Schengen area countries, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican

  • The EU digital COVID certificate or
  • A documentation of recovery from COVID-19 that is no more than 180 days old

In terms of entry requirements, if you have recovered from COVID-19 no more than 180 days ago before arrival, you’re also considered fully vaccinated.

No self-isolation is required upon entry to Estonia. 

Travel documents if you are fully vaccinated or recovered and traveling from the Annex 1 countries

  • Any document confirming your vaccination status or
  • A documentation of recovery from COVID-19 that is no more than 180 days old

In terms of entry requirements, if you have recovered from COVID-19 no more than 180 days ago before arrival, you’re also considered fully vaccinated.

Travel documents if you are fully vaccinated and traveling from third countries

  • Any document confirming your vaccination status

No self-isolation is required upon entry to Estonia. 

At present, third countries are territories classified as neither the EU nor the Annex 1 countries. 

Can I enter Estonia if I am unvaccinated?

You can enter Estonia if you are unvaccinated. However, entry requirements vary depending on the country of departure. 

Travel documents if you are unvaccinated and traveling from the EU and Schengen area countries, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican

You have to present a negative result of a PCR test (no more than 72 hours old) or rapid antigen test (no more than 24 hours old) before arriving in Estonia if you arrive from:

  • Malta
  • The Vatican

In addition, you are obliged to undergo a seven-day mandatory self-isolation after arriving in Estonia.

No tests but a seven-day self-isolation are required if you are arriving from the following countries:

  • Andorra
  • Austria    
  • Belgium    
  • Bulgaria   
  • Croatia

Travel documents if you are unvaccinated and traveling from the Annex 1 countries

No tests are required if you travel from the Annex 1 countries. 

A seven-day self-isolation is not obligatory for persons traveling from:

  • Rwanda
  • Taiwan

A seven-day self-isolation is obligatory for persons traveling from:

  • Bahrain   
  • Chile   
  • South Korea   
  • Uruguay   
  • United Kingdom   
  • Kuwait    
  • Peru    
  • New Zealand  
  • Qatar    
  • Indonesia    
  • United Arab Emirates   
  • Colombia   
  • Saudi Arabia   

Travel documents if you are unvaccinated or recovered and traveling from third countries

Please be aware that unvaccinated travelers from third countries are not permitted to visit Estonia for tourism.

If you fall under the special reasons to travel, you have to present:

  • A negative PCR (no more than 72 hours) or rapid antigen (no more than 24 hours) test (mandatory even for recovered persons)

A seven-day self-isolation is not obligatory if you have recovered from COVID-19 no more than 180 days ago.

A seven-day self-isolation is obligatory if you are neither recovered nor vaccinated.

However, the above requirements do not apply to citizens of the following countries if they arrive from third countries:

  • The European Union and Schengen area
  • The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
  • Andorra
  • Monaco
  • San Marino
  • Vatican 

The only requirement they have to follow is a seven-day self-isolation, if they are neither recovered nor vaccinated. 

Can I leave Estonia?

There are no COVID-19-restrictions for leaving Estonia. Please check that you’ve learned the requirements of your destination country concerning COVID-19 tests for vaccinated travelers. Some countries, such as the US, demand tests anyway.

Can I leave Estonia if I am vaccinated?

Vaccinated travelers can leave Estonia.

Travel documents if you are vaccinated

Vaccinated travelers must have one of the following documents to leave Estonia:

  • The EU digital COVID certificate (to travel within the EU) 
  • Another document confirming vaccination (to travel outside the EU)

In addition, it is recommended that you find out the requirements of the destination country.

Can I leave Estonia if I am unvaccinated?

There are no restrictions for unvaccinated travelers on leaving Estonia.

Travel documents if you are unvaccinated

Unvaccinated travelers have to present one of the following documents: 

  • Documentation of recovery from COVID-19 (it has to state that the visitor has been infected no later than six months before the day of crossing the border of a particular country)
  • A negative COVID-19 test result (the relevant period and kind of test may vary, please check the requirements of the destination country)

Is it safe to travel to Estonia right now?

It is safe to travel to Estonia if you follow certain general rules such as wearing masks, which is mandatory in public places. Please be aware that most restaurants, museums, cinemas, and other recreational areas allow only vaccinated or recovered visitors.

Is Tallinn open for travel?

Tallinn is open for tourists now. COVID-19 related restrictions are the same as in the rest of the country.

Do I have to quarantine if I go to Estonia? 

Fully vaccinated travelers are exempt from quarantine in Estonia.
