Can I enter Laos?

As of April 2022, there are restrictions on the issuance of Laotian visas. Please note that the information presented below concerning COVID-19 restrictions only applies if you are generally permitted to enter the country (typically, for business or family reasons). 

The first thing all travelers have to do when going to Laos is to complete a Health Declaration Form.

Can I enter Laos if I am vaccinated? 

You can enter Laos if you are fully vaccinated. You are considered fully vaccinated if you have had the full course of your vaccine at least 14 days before entering Laos.

Currently, the following vaccines are approved in Laos:

  • Sputnik V
  • Sputnik Light
  • Pfizer
  • CoronaVac
  • Covilo
  • Johnson & Johnson

Travel documents if I am vaccinated 

If you are vaccinated, you must present all of the following documents:

  • A vaccination certificate 
  • The result of a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure
  • Proof of travel health insurance

Can I enter Laos if I am unvaccinated? 

You can enter Laos if you are unvaccinated.

Who can enter Laos?

Traveling for tourism is restricted in Laos. In most cases, state and private entities apply for entry approval for essential workers, technical experts, and investors. 

Can I leave Laos?

As of April 2022, both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers can leave Laos. Please ensure that you are aware in advance of the potential requirement to present a negative Covid test result at your destination country. Such a requirement might apply to you regardless of whether or not you are vaccinated.

Travel documents if I am vaccinated

  • A certificate of full vaccination against COVID-19 in paper or electronic format

Travel documents if I am unvaccinated

  • A certificate of recovery from COVID-19 (no more than 180 days old before the day of crossing the border of a particular country)
  • A negative COVID-19 test result (the relevant period and kind of test may vary, please check the requirements of your destination country)

As of April 2022, the number of COVID-19 cases has been increasing. To prevent further spread of the illness, local measures are in place.

Is it safe to travel to Laos right now?

Although the number of COVID-19 cases has recently increased, travel to Laos is safe providing you adhere to a couple of regulations:

  • Wearing masks indoors is mandatory
  • Certain provinces require customers in establishments to be fully vaccinated, and have imposed a 23:00 – 05:00 curfew

Is Vientiane open for travel?

Presently, Vientiane is open to travelers. Basic Covid-preventative measures in the capital are the same as those in place in the rest of the country.

Do I have to go into quarantine if I go to Laos?

All foreign arrivals are obliged to self-isolate for seven days upon arrival in Laos. They must:

  • Take a COVID-19 test 
  • Go into quarantine at a designated facility for 48 hours until their test result comes back

If you test negative, you can continue your quarantine period at your own residence.

Business travelers who test negative can stop self-isolating, but they must wear a health monitoring device.

How do I get a health pass to travel to Laos?

All foreign arrivals are required to install and register in the LaoKYC app. This will be your health pass during your stay in Laos.
