Can I enter Taiwan?

As of February 2022, Taiwan has some of the world’s strictest COVID-19 restrictions for foreign visitors. 

International travelers can only enter Taiwan provided they have one of the following:

  • ARC/APRC/Gold Card
  • Close family in the country
  • Student visa

Please note that all the information about the documents presented below refers to you only if your reasons to travel are on the list above.

Travel documents if I am vaccinated

  • A vaccination certificate
  • A negative PCR test result obtained within 48 hours before entering Taiwan
  • A completed Quarantine System for Entry 

Please be aware that starting from December 2021, the declared 48 hours are calculated based on the “specimen collection date” instead of the test report date. Check if your test result corresponds to these timing requirements. 

As for vaccination, Taiwan accepts all vaccines approved by the WHO, namely:

  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Pfizer
  • Moderna
  • AstraZeneca
  • Covishield 
  • BIBP/Sinopharm 
  • Sinovac
  • Covaxin 
  • Covovax

You are considered fully vaccinated at least 14 days after completing the full vaccination course. 

Travel documents if you are unvaccinated

Can I leave Taiwan?

You can leave Taiwan, although it is advised not to travel overseas during COVID-19. Still, you can travel from Taiwan if you correspond to the entry requirements of your destination country. 

Travel documents if you are vaccinated

  • A document confirming vaccination

Please be aware that COVID-19 tests can be required from vaccinated travelers in some countries.

Travel documents if you are unvaccinated

Unvaccinated travelers have to present one of the following documents: 

  • Documentation of recovery from COVID-19 (it has to state that the visitor has been infected no later than six months before the day of crossing the border of a particular country)
  • A negative COVID-19 test result (the relevant period and kind of test may vary, please check the requirements of your destination country)

COVID-19 remains a risk in Taiwan. Nevertheless, more than 70% of the total population has been fully vaccinated.

Is it safe to travel to Taiwan right now?

International travel to Taiwan is safe (however, not permitted for tourism). Please make sure to follow basic COVID-19 regulations, such as wearing masks in public places and social distancing. 

Is Taipei open for travel?

At present, Taipei is not open for tourism. 

Do I have to quarantine if I go to Taiwan?

From January 2022, all international travelers have to follow the following quarantine measure in Taiwan: 

  • Fill in the Entry Quarantine Form within 48 hours before departure
  • Arrange quarantine accommodation
  • Follow all the requirements listed in the form

How do I get a health pass to travel to Taiwan?

Permitted arrivals can use their Quarantine System for Entry as a health pass while staying in Taiwan.
