The new Deal Fare will give the passengers the option of a weekend getaway on selected routes
A United Arab Emirates-based airline, Etihad Airways, has launched a new fare offering low-cost travelling options on selected routes in the Middle East and further.
The new Deal Fare available on flights to Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Oman, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan and Egypt will give passengers the option of a weekend getaway with a hand luggage only.
The fare includes a complimentary carry-on luggage up to 7 kg and no checked bag which should lead to a decrease in fare price.
Robin Kamark, Etihad Airways chief commercial officer, said: “After a successful trial of the Deal Fare late last year, purchasing behaviour demonstrated guests appreciate having more choice and like to be able to select the travel option that best meets their needs.”
“We are enhancing our product offering to align with customer feedback. Guests travelling for business, weekend getaways or day trips who like to travel light can now avail cheaper fares.”
By launching the new fare, the carrier is following similar moves made by British Airways and Virgin Atlantic who both introduced hand baggage-only fares recently.
Virgin will bring in a new fare called economy light from spring 2019. The weight limit on a their flight will be just 10kg with a handbag or small backpack. They will still offer an in-flight meal and free drinks, however.
“The new economy light ticket will always offer Virgin Atlantic’s lowest fare,” the airline said when announcing the new approach.
“It will make long-haul travel affordable and accessible for millennials”.
Etihad passengers who would like to add checked bags to their booking after purchasing the new fare might do so at check-in or online in advance.
