Workers in Luxembourg have the highest wages compared to their free time
If you prefer working less while earning more, it’s time to move to Europe.
The average employee in Luxembourg earns $4,491.50 per month while working only for 142 hours meaning the wage is $31.63 per hour. Workers in the pint-sized city-state also have 32 days of paid leave annually, which gives them the highest level of earnings in combination with the amount of free time among all the cities compared.
The city-state is closely followed by Munich and Paris, while the whole top 10 ranking was dominated by European cities, two of them being in France.
Out of all cities in the United States, only New York managed to be listed in the higher positions of the ranking.
“US cities don’t fare too well though, with New York emerging as the only US city in the top 25. Big Apple employees were paid more generously than most, with an average monthly salary behind only Zurich and Geneva in Switzerland,” the study says.
“However, high numbers of hours worked bring the city’s overall ranking down to 13th.”
From the other side of the ranking, the three worst places to work and living that were surveyed are Bogotá, Bangkok and Jakarta.
“The Indonesian capital ranks bottom overall, and fourth from bottom for salary, with an average monthly wage of just $548,” the agency said.
