The rating website has also announced the best airlines for COVID-19 compliance

The start of the new year wouldn’t be complete without a brand new airline safety rating — for 2021, Qantas has been named the world’s safest airline.

The safety, product, and COVID-19 rating website AirlineRatings.com has revealed a list of the world’s top 20 safest airlines as well as a list of top 10 safest low-cost airlines, and a list of 20 airlines for COVID-19 compliance.

Out of the 385 airlines it surveys, Qantas was picked as the world’s safest airline — it holds on to its number-one position from 2020.

Qantas is accepted as the industry’s most experienced airline

According to AirlineRatings.com, Qantas is now accepted as the industry’s most experienced airline and with 100 years of history, it has compiled an exceptional record of firsts in safety and operations.

“Australia’s Qantas has been recognized by the British Advertising Standards Association in a test case as the world’s most experienced airline,” said AirlineRatings.com editor-in-chief, Geoffrey Thomas.

“Qantas has been the lead airline in virtually every major operational safety advancement over the past 60 years and has not had a fatality in the pure-jet era.”

Qatar Airways has been awarded the runner-up spot in the list followed by Air New Zealand.

“In fact, there is very little between the top 20, they are all standouts,” said Thomas.

The evaluation process considers a comprehensive range of factors

AirlineRatings.com takes into account a comprehensive range of factors when considering the safety of airlines.

These factors include a record of the airline’s crash and serious incidents, audits from aviation’s governing and industry bodies, government audits, industry-leading safety initiatives, and fleet age, according to the website.
