In the process of identifying this year’s Travel Choice, the site used an algorithm that evaluated quality and quantity of reviews for each museum listed and analysed data gathered over a 12-month period.
Being home to masterpieces from the Old Masters and Impressionists such as Cézanne, Monet or Renoir, it is no wonder the Parisian Musée d’Orsay was named the very best museum for 2018. The former railway station attracts visitors for paintings such as A burial at Ornacs by Gustave Coubert, Bal du Moulin de la Galette from Renoir, or Dinner at the Ball by Edgar Degas.
New York is not only a city that never sleeps but also home to the second and third best museums in the world. The National 9/11 Museum and Memorial, second in the ranking, commemorates the victims of the tragic events of 11 September 2001, while The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the third best museum in the world, maps more than 5,000 years of art production.
The fourth best museum can be found in London, United Kingdom, where the British Museum holds the title, and the fifth place belongs to Prado National Museum in Madrid, Spain.

According to TripAdvisor booking data, museum ticket sales last year grew 29 per cent for US travellers and globally, bookings increased by 40 per cent. This year’s award-winning museums serve as inspiration for travellers wanting to join the trend and discover some of the world’s finest collections of art, science, culture and history.
