A tiny tropical paradise in the Philippines won the Condé Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice Awards and became world’s finest island for the second time in a row

Despite its relatively small area of only about 4 square miles, Boracay island in the Western Visayas has plenty to offer. Being both a party and kid-friendly destination, the island gives its visitors 12 beautiful beaches, a plethora of activities and the talcum-like sand that is one of its kind.

Boracay was chosen by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler in an annual survey. More than 300,000 people took part sharing millions of personal experiences and 100,000 comments. The poll compares the best islands outside the United States.

Boracay, that won the survey in 2016 as well, came out on top followed by its sister islands Cebu and Palawan that gained the second and third place.

Condé Nast Traveler’s readers described Boracay as an “itty-bitty island” that is “as close to a tropical idyll as you’ll find in Southeast Asia, with gentle coastlines and transporting sunsets.

“Add in a thriving nightlife scene, and you have one of the top tourist spots in the region,” the magazine added.

Apart from sunbathing on the whitest sand, Bocay provides also various activities. There’s snorkelling, scuba diving, helmet diving, as well as island hopping.

For the adrenaline seeker, there is parasailing or paddle boarding, cliff jumping, or sailing with a paraw, a local sailboat.

After an exhausting day, you can relax by simply jogging or walking alongside the beaches or by enjoying a good massage under the coconut trees.

The survey created a list of 30 most popular islands including places like Mallorca in Spain, Mykonos in Greece, or Bali. But the fact that the top three positions are in the Philippines make this part of the world one of the hippest places to spend your vacation at.
