The Australian passport is named the most expensive in the world, while wife asks flight crew to inform her husband about her pregnancy, and a 750 mile long hiking trail will connect New York with Canada
Aussies are the unluckiest travellers when it comes to paying for their travel documents, The New Daily ranking reveals.
According to the paper, after the price increase on January 1st, Australian passport applicants have to pay $233 for a 10-year document.
They’re closely followed by Turkish citizens who pay $204 and the Swiss with $158 per passport, Australians are only beaten by Syrians who live outside their country as they have to pay almost $400 at an overseas consulate.
A DFAT advisory group member, Dr Beirman, said passports were “very expensive to produce” and that Australian travel documents had “more safety mechanisms than most”.
“Within the passport there are 100 security measures inserted into the passport, many of which you and I couldn’t see.”
Love is in the air: Virgin Atlantic plane draws a heart in the sky for Valentine’s day
Virgin Atlantic pilots had some real fun during a test flight on February 14th.
They flew an Airbus A330 out of London Gatwick mapping out a cordate trail over the south-west coast of England. The route was visible live on Flight Radar, a service that tracks flights over the world.

“We had a training flight planned for 14th February, and when we realised it was Valentine’s Day we decided to have a little fun,” Captain JJ Burrows, director of aircraft operations for Virgin Atlantic, said
“Our special heart-shaped flight took off from London Gatwick, travelling across the south of England and over the Cornish coast to form a heart shape at around 30,000ft.”
Love was literally in the air on that day.
Woman asks flight crew to surprise her husband with her pregnancy
Speaking of love, it truly was a life changing journey for a married couple travelling from Florida to Chicago.
After boarding a flight with her husband at the Tampa International Airport, Audrey Rose gave a note to a flight attendant saying that she wants to surprise her husband with the fresh news about her pregnancy.
“I have a big favour to ask. I just found out that I’m pregnant and I really want to surprise my husband. I was hoping you could announce it before takeoff. His name is David Rose and he is sitting in 28E. If you can give me a quick cue that you are about to announce it, I will get my video camera ready,”
The stewardess then asked the captain to announce it for all passengers while Audrey made a video of her husband’s reaction.
“David and Audrey Rose have apparently smuggled an extra passenger on today,” the pilot said.
The only reaction David Rose was capable of was to simply repeat: “What?”
Other passengers then started applauding. One even tried to comfort David by telling him, “It’ll be okay.”
Hiking trail to connect New York with Canada
Healthy lifestyle enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the US’s longest hiking and biking trail in the near future.
The Empire State Trail project will bring 350 miles of completely new track that will be joined with roughly 400 miles of existing trails.
When it’s completed, the track will be the longest path in the United States. The Governor states that the route is a path to “the scenic natural beauty” that is “vital to our future and part of who we are as New Yorkers.”
State officials and developers are starting to make moves to hit the 2020 deadline.
