Kiwi.com’s Instagram contest #WhatOnEarth has gone through its third round. We’ve got the stories behind the winners, and their ambitious plans for how to spend the vouchers…
We’re natural backpackers at Kiwi.com. We love to throw on a rucksack and hike into the wilderness in the hope of discovering an experience like no other.
That’s why we’re so happy to deliver €200 to @backpackcito for her winning entry in round three of #WhatOnEarth.
Constanza was travelling through Mexico with her mum when she stumbled upon this ruined Mayan arch. What better opportunity could there be to sit and meditate on the ancient history that has passed through these gates?
The winner of Round 3 of our #WhatOnEarth #Instagram contest is @backpackcito. Alan Whitfield, our judge for this round, was impressed: “Mayan meditation in Mexico. Something about this ancient archway had my head spinning…!” So what’s the story? “I was travelling with my Mom through southern Mexico. We love visiting ruins that are away from the tourists. We found these in the middle of nowhere, so we sat for a while and enjoyed the moment!” Well, it’s a lovely shot. Enjoy your €200 voucher! We’d love you to submit your bizarre and beautiful travel photos to our WhatOnEarth Instagram contest. Just follow @kiwicom247 and caption your photo with “Here’s my photo for the #WhatOnEarth #contest from @kiwicom247. “I’m super happy about the win and really touched that Kiwi.com picked my picture,” Constanza said.
“I was travelling with my mum through the south of Mexico. We love visiting ruins that are not as touristy as Chichen Itza.
“We did the Ruta Puuc and found a lot of Mayan arches that were in the middle of nowhere. So we sat there for a while and enjoyed the moment. It was an amazing experience!”
Our judge this week was Alan Whitfield, the Kiwi.com product team’s Copywriter.
He said: “’Mayan meditation in Mexico? Something about this ancient archway had my head spinning…”
The runner-up for round three was @michaelamadlova’s of her gazing out at a mountainous pine forest from a log floating on the bluest of lakes.
She will receive €50 of Kiwi.com travel vouchers.
Congratulations to @michaelamadlova who wins a €50 travel voucher for finishing runner-up in this round of our #WhatOnEarth #Instagram #contest. So… where, when, what?! “It was a day by the Joffre Provincial Lakes, a place I’d wanted to go as soon as I got to Canada. Due to wildfires in British Columbia I had to wait over a month, but, you know what they say: good things come to those who wait! Totally worth it. I’ll be back in winter when it’s frozen over, and home to thousands of tiny whiskey jack birds!” Well, we certainly think it was worth it! Well done again. As always, we had far too many entries to choose from. And we have to show off the ones that we just loved to bits, but didn’t win.
“The water was ice cold, but in the hot summer like that one it was the refreshment I desperately needed,” she said.
Adding a theme to your trip can spice things up. @isuzketi snapped this photo when she finally found some ice during her stay in Iceland.
“The blue ice lagoon in front of me is one of the most impressive things I have seen in my life,” she described her feelings while taking the picture.
Maybe next time she should go to Greenland to look for some greenery.
We close the watery section with an entry that truly reflects our company’s spirit. According to Ashley River AKA @travelinghappiness: “Happiness is the journey, not the destination!”
And it was in the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park in Thailand where she lived by her credo and took this tempting picture.
We cannot help but agree with her statement: “The world is yours!”
We deeply admire adventurers with real dedication such as @monicamexicana who has been travelling around the world and has visited 64 countries so far.
This breathtaking picture was taken in the Dunas de Yeso in Mexico. These white dunes cover a large area near the city of Cuatro Cinénegas and are considered the largest in both Americas.
We wish her the best of luck on her journey and we look forward to seeing more of her entries!
