How To Get Cheap Flights With Price Drop Alerts

Are you looking for travel hacks for finding cheap flights? Well, you’ve come to the right place because here at Kiwi.com, we consider ourselves experts when it comes to finding affordable airfares.

We know what it’s like when you have your eye on a specific flight, and you’re torn whether just to buy it or wait it out and see if the price goes down. Thankfully, with the help of our team and Kiwi-Code, we have designed some creative travel hacks so our customers never miss out on low-cost airfares. One, in particular, is price alerts.

Read through this article to find out exactly how price alerts can help you get cheap flights and save you a tonne of money.

What Is A Flight Price Alert?

Price alerts are one of Kiwi.com’s best travel hacks that notify our customers every time there’s a change in price on the flight they’re watching. Put on a price alert on the flight you plan on taking, allow us to keep an eye on it, and we’ll send you an email or push notification whenever the price changes. It saves you the trouble of logging on and seeing if there has been any change.

For example, say you wanted to book a flight to Kuala Lumpur, but you’re predicting the price might drop over the next couple of weeks. If you put a price alert on that flight, you’ll receive an email from us whenever the price goes up or down, giving you prime access to the fare that someone else is checking back once a day to see if it changed.

It’s like a cheat code!

What You Should Know About Price Changes

Airline carriers determine the price of their flight tickets. As soon as any change occurs, our system automatically modifies them on our site for price alerts and mobile applications. At the same time, anyone who has activated a price alert will receive a notification that there has been a change.

It’s important to note that flight prices are constantly changing, sometimes multiple times a day, so if you receive a notification there has been a price decrease on the fare you’re watching, but you miss it and click it later in the day, the price might have changed again.

The closer it gets to the departure date, the higher the chance that the flight price will increase, so we recommend you book the tickets ahead of time.

What Affects Flight Prices?

A number of factors can impact the price of flights; some of these include:

  • The season you’re flying; for example summer is usually more expensive than autumn.
  • The demand for a route.
  • The airline.
  • The time you purchase the fare.
  • Departure time. Early-morning flights are cheap because fewer people want to fly at that time.
  • If there’s competition between a couple of airlines, one might drop the price to make a sale.
  • The longer the distance, the more expensive the fare.
  • If you add a stopover to your journey, it’s usually cheaper than flying direct.

Why Our Customers Love Price Alerts

Price alerts are arguably our customers’ favorite travel hack for finding cheap flights for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Setting up price alerts is super easy. After a customer accesses our website, it’s only a matter of clicking a button, and they’re good to go.
  • Price alerts save our customers lots of time. If Kiwi.com didn’t have price alerts, they would have to check back time and time again, and they might miss a change, whereas now, they receive they find out about them on demand.
  • Trips can be booked with the click of a finger, thanks to price alerts. Once a customer receives an email with a price change, there will be an option for them to book that flight. In seconds, they’ll already have their trip planned.

Frequently asked questions

When Do Flight Prices Of Airfare Drops?
Airlines are known to change the price of tickets at all times of the day, but some research suggests that the most affordable time is in the afternoon. Mondays and Tuesdays are known to be the cheapest days in general to buy flights. Unfortunately, it can sometimes be hard to predict as airlines will change the prices based on the factors we have mentioned above.
How Can Flights Alerts Save Me Money?
If you have a specific date in mind for your flight to a particular city, flight alerts enable you to monitor price fluctuations and gain insight into the direction in which the prices are heading. Monitoring a flight is almost like a warning system. If it increases further than the initial price you found it at, you know you've seen it cheaper before, and you should probably get it before the price increases even more. But if that price falls, you'll be ready to snap up the deal quickly.
What Happens If A Price Changes While I'm Making A Booking?
Although it's rare, it happens occasionally when a customer is in the middle of booking their trip. Before confirming your booking, we must go through the carrier to ensure the fare is still the same. We'll send you an email as soon as we know the price and booking areconfirmed.
What Day Of The Week Is The Worst To Buy Flights?
Our research shows that flights are usually at their cheapest at the beginning of the week, and as the days go on toward the weekend, they slowly increase hence why we mentioned above that Mondays and Tuesdays are the cheapest days to purchase flights.
What Is The Cheapest Day Of The Week To Fly?
Flying on the weekends is pricier than during the week because fewer people are working over those days which gives them time to travel, so airlines bump up airfares. Typically airfares on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays will be pricier than Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Remember, if you plan on flying out on a Tuesday but back on a Saturday, that will also impact the price.
