Each traveler needs to check in to obtain a boarding pass. Check-in can be done either at the airport or online (if the airline offers it).
To check in at the airport, go to the airline check-in desk. You'll need to present your passport/ID and a printed Kiwi.com e-ticket. You should also hand over your checked baggage.
If you haven't bought a seat earlier, the airline staff will assign it to you during check-in.
Airport check-in might be necessary when:
- You're traveling with an infant
- You're traveling with pets
- You require special assistance
Some airlines endorse online check-in and charge a fee for airport check-in. You can find more information on their website.
If you have a hidden city itinerary
and need to check in at the airport, here’s what you need to keep in mind:
- Have your visa and COVID-19 documents ready for all destinations in the official itinerary, even the ones you won't be traveling to
- Bring a personal item only, no checked or cabin baggage
- Don’t show your Kiwi.com e-ticket unless you’re specifically asked to
- Don’t mention if you’ll be getting off in the layover stop (hidden city)
Some airlines offer the possibility to check in online. Online check-in usually opens one or two days before departure, but it varies for each airline.
Kiwi.com does online check-in for you with some airlines. Usually, we only need your passport or ID details to do it, but due to global travel restrictions, we might also ask for your COVID-19 documentation, depending on your route and nationality.

If we don’t provide check-in, you might be able to check in yourself on the airline’s website. You will need a reservation number (PNR), which you can find in your Kiwi.com e-ticket.
When you check in online, you can print your boarding pass beforehand. If you don't have any baggage to check, you can save time at the airport and go directly to the security control.
If you have baggage to check, you will need to go to the airline check-in desk or to the baggage drop and check your bags in. You can continue to security control afterwards.
Seats are usually assigned automatically during online check-in unless you buy them in advance.
When will I receive my boarding pass?
If online check-in is available, we'll do it for you and send you your boarding pass before your trip. The latest you'll receive them is 6 hours before your flight with every airline except Ryanair, which can be up to 2 hours before departure.
Do I need to contact Kiwi.com about my boarding pass?
Some airlines only issue boarding passes on the same day as the flight. You don’t need to contact us unless there are less than 6 hours to go until departure and you still haven’t `received your boarding pass.
