Even though Brest is a port city, local beaches fully meet all standards and are distinguished by white sand and azure ocean waters. The most popular beaches in Brest are Moulin Blanc and Sainte Anne. The first beach can be reached from the centre by bus 3, and to go to the second one, get on bus 13.
Go in a medieval watchtower to learn more about the history of Brest
On the right bank of the Penfeld river, there is a medieval watchtower Tour Tanguy built in the 14th century. Inside, there is the Museum of Old Brest with many interesting things like coats of arms and old city maps. The entrance is free.
Visit the former bomb shelter Abri-Karno in Brest for free to learn about the city's hard times during World War II
The former bomb shelter of Abri-Carnot is located on Boulevard Marine near the Tourville tower. This memorial tells the story of the city assault in 1944 when most of the city was destroyed. Fort Montbarey, located about 3 km from the harbour, is also dedicated to this period.
