Be watchful at the Rue St. Catherine and Vieux Lyon district
Lyon is generally a safe city. Sometimes, tourists become victims of pickpockets and crooks, but those occasions are rare. However, the Rue St. Catherine, with its numerous bars, is infamous for drunk people in the street. The same problem may be encountered even in the Vieux Lyon, a historic part of the city. The situation gradually changes, but some extra caution, especially in the evening, won’t harm.
Rainbow stairs of rue Prunelle are one of the most Instagrammable places in Lyon
These stairs in the district of La Croix Rousse had existed for some time before they became a work of art. The rainbow colours were added in 2015 by the artist Genaro Lopez. Take a look at the L’Horloge de Guignol — 19th-century clock on the streets of Lyon
If you happen to pass la Rue de la Poulaillerie, look for this interesting timepiece close to the Puzzle Café. It was created by the renowned local clockmaker Louis Charvet in 1864. The clock has five bells and five automatons: Arlequin, Polichinelle, Guignol, Gnafron and a Trumpet. Each of them indicates the hours by striking a bell with a hammer. In 2021 the clock was put back into service, and you can actually hear the bells and watch the puppets move.
