Marseille travel tips
Visit the oldest building in Marseille, the Abbey of St. Victor
The Abbey of St. Victor was built in Marseille in the 5th century. It is the oldest building in the city. The abbey served as a monastery and gradually expanded. Today the architectural complex looks more like a castle than a monastery. You can walk through the catacombs that house the sarcophaguses, as well as appreciate the interior of the well-preserved church.
See the collections of two museums at once at the Longchamp Palace in Marseille
The Longchamp Palace was built in the 19th century to commemorate the completion of the Marseille Canal. Today, the Longchamp Palace includes two museums, an observatory, and a zoological garden. In addition, there is a multi-level fountain complex on the territory of the palace. You can walk around for free and visit the Museum of Fine Arts for 6 euro or the Museum of Natural History for the same price.
Enjoy happy hours in Marseille bars with a glass of rosé
Apéro hours happen before the sunset. All the cafes are filled with locals and tourists sipping rosé wine. Whatever you order during happy hours, it will come with some free snacks – for example, a plate of olives or panisses (chickpea fritters).
