Málaga travel tips
Venture out of Málaga for a beach rest
Malagueta, Málaga’s city beach, is a short walk from the centre and bustles with life. While it is certainly worth a visit, Malagueta isn’t the only choice when it comes to the beach rest in the area. Try looking outside the city. Sacaba Beach, west of Málaga, is calm and quiet without many people around. Pedregalejo Beach is a popular destination with a number of beach bars and restaurants. El Palo Beach boasts some great chiringuitos (beachside restaurants) offering delicious seafood.
See the 200-year-old La Farola lighthouse, one of Málaga’s icons
This lighthouse was built in 1817. It separates the nearby promenade, bearing the same name, and Malagueta, the city’s beach. The flashes of light from the top of this 38-metre building can be seen from a distance of up to 46km. Alas, the lighthouse is not accessible. Still, walking the promenade on a warm summer evening and admiring it from the outside is a rewarding experience.
The tap water is safe to drink in Málaga
Spanish authorities pay great attention to the quality of tap water. Málaga is no exception. Note that desalination plants produce a large percentage of tap water along the Costa del Sol. If its taste is not to your liking, you can easily buy bottled water at a supermarket.
