Santiago de Compostela travel tips
1) Discover the history of the major touristic spot at Museo de la Catedral de Santiago de Compostela
The museum is situated next door to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral and reveals milestone events in the cathedral's past. For example, you’ll find out how one of the world's prominent churches grew from a small tomb. Also, look at the collection of tapestries, textiles, and other objects from the 13th to the 18th centuries. The museum operates daily from 10:30 to 14:30, except for Mondays.
2) Attend one of the most majestic celebrations in Santiago de Compostela
The greatest festivity in Santiago de Compostela takes place every year, on July 25. This summer day is dedicated to the feast of Apostle St. James. Thousands of pilgrims walk along the Way of Saint James, wearing traditional pilgrim clothing. They start their route about a month before the celebration to come to the Plaza del Obradoiro in time. On this day, crowds fill the streets of Santiago de Compostela and have parties with dances, fireworks, and treatment.
3) Go to the Museo de Tierra Santa to have a look at ancient artefacts brought from the Holy Land
The Museum of the Holy Land holds an exhibition of about 700 pieces, including ceramics, military artefacts, carvings, and many other objects from the Palaeolithic era to modern days. These findings were brought from Jerusalem and showcase lifestyles in different centuries. Find the Museum of the Holy Land at the old San Francisco monastery. It's open every day except for Monday from 10:30 to 19:00.
