Brest travel tips
Visit poetry evenings in one of the most beautiful buildings in Brest, the Fountain House
The Fountain House was built at the end of the 17th century and is one of the oldest constructions in Brest. It got its name from the fountain, which was built nearby in 1760. Initially, this house was designed for a priest and then belonged to the talented sculptor Yves Collet. He was engaged in the interior decoration of the house, and many of his works have survived to this day. Today exhibitions and poetry evenings are often held in the house.
Even if you don't like maritime museums, go to Brest's Naval Museum, located in the city's oldest building
The Naval Museum is located in the oldest building in the city, Château de Brest. A fort was built there in the 3rd century, followed by the residence of the Dukes of Brittany. The Naval War Museum is now in the fort, and you can check out a Seehund midget submarine left from the Second World War. The entrance costs 6 euro.
Look for the best cafes and restaurants on the Siam and Jean Jaures streets
Brest cuisine is more democratic than in Paris — on average, you can dine here for 15-20 euro per person. The best establishments are located in the city centre, on Siam and Jean Jaures streets, serving Breton and traditional French cuisine. Since Brest is a port city, it also has a lot of Indian cuisine venues.
