Asturias travel tips
Travel back to Asturias medieval times in Santillana Del Mar
To get there, take a bus from Santander bus station to Santillana del Mar. Make sure to carefully read the schedule as some buses run only during the summer. This medieval town looks like it did in the Middle Ages hundreds of years ago. Make sure to visit the historical highlight of the town — Colegiata de Santa Juliana church. Stroll the accompanying cloisters and feel the spirit of the Middle Ages. Also, if you are not too faint-hearted, visit Museo de la Tortura to find out what torture methods used the Spanish Inquisition.
Swim in the Asturian wild natural swimming pool in Rio Dobra
To get there, walk up from the restaurant Puente Dobra on the N625 south of Cangas de Onis. Pass the medieval bridge, and you’ll get to the beautiful pool (Olla de San Vicente). It’s better to wear boots, as the area is rocky and also there may be snakes on the way.
Visit Casa Julio restaurant in Cudillero to try fresh seafood
The restaurant sits right on the main square, and there you can order all the region’s specialities in a friendly atmosphere and for a budget-friendly price. You can get to Cudillero by bus and train from Oviedo, Luarca, and a few other nearby towns. The train station is 1 km from the centre.
