Málaga travel tips
1) See the Málaga Cathedral, one of the city’s most important landmarks | Built between 1528 and 1782, the cathedral is a great example of Renaissance architecture. The north tower is 87 metres high, which makes it the highest cathedral in Andalusia. The south tower, however, is still unfinished, giving this landmark its peculiar appearance. That’s why the cathedral is sometimes affectionately called La Manquita (‘one-armed woman’). The interior is a mixture of the Renaissance and Baroque styles. One of the most notable things inside is the 17th-century choir stalls with the statues of saints. |

2) Visit the Plaza de la Merced — one of the most beautiful squares in Málaga | The Torrijos Monument, a large obelisk, dominates this picturesque square in the city centre. Pablo Picasso and some other renowned Spanish artists lived nearby. Don’t miss the Picasso statue and the museum devoted to this famous painter. The blossoms on the trees in the square can be spectacular. Besides, it has an excellent array of cafes and bars to choose from. If you are lucky, you’ll see a flamenco street dance performance. |
3) The quality of free Wi-Fi is quite poor in Málaga | Officially, free Wi-Fi from the Málaga City Council should be available in the city centre. You can get a good signal behind the tourist office on Plaza de la Marina. But in other places, you can hardly rely on free Wi-Fi. Most hotels provide their own networks. However, not all cafes, bars and restaurants follow that example. Besides, those Wi-Fi networks usually require a password you can learn from the waiting staff after you’ve made your order. Make sure to check your roaming charges before the trip. |
