Visit a spot in San Diego where the European traveller first stepped on the west American land
If you go to the southern end of the Point Loma Peninsula, you will find yourself in the same place on the west coast of the United States where Europeans first stepped. The Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo expedition arrived here on September 28, 1542. The navigator named this bay San Miguel, and in 1602, the settlement was called San Diego. Now on this site, a statue of Cabrillo stands, donated to the United States by Portugal in 1939.
