Toulouse travel tips
See the Church of the Jacobins in Toulouse
The history of this building dates back as far as 1230. Its unusual architecture, which makes it look a little bit like a castle, is described as the Southern French Gothic style. This church is famous as a burial place of the Catholic saint Thomas Aquinas. Come inside to see its magnificent interior. This building is famous for the 28-meter columns and ribs of the ceiling, which form the ‘palm trees’. Note that it is open every day except Monday.
Go to the Japanese Garden - one of the most beautiful parks in Toulouse
The Japanese Garden in Toulouse is a replica of the existing 14th-16th century gardens in Kyoto (Japan). A pond between artificial hills can be crossed over by a picturesque red bridge. The perimeter wall, lanterns, and a tea pavilion, surrounded by greenery, carry you to the Land of the Rising Sun. The Garden is small, but it is situated in a larger park. If you visit Toulouse in spring, you may be lucky enough to see Japanese cherry trees (‘sakuras’) in full blossom.
Visit Muséum de Toulouse — a museum of natural history
Founded in 1796, it has more than 2.5 million items on its 3,000 square metres! They cover a lot of subjects, including the origin and evolution of life on the Earth, the peculiarities of living environments and the impact of human activity. Aside from exhibitions, you can see Henri Gaussen Botanical gardens and three hectares of the Museum gardens. Visitors come here in hundreds of thousands each year - maybe, you should too!
