Try Lyonnaise cuisine at small bouchons
Those cosy, family-owned restaurants can be found almost on every street in the older part of Lyon. They offer the city’s traditional dishes, including Lyonnaise salads with bacon, poached eggs, and a Dijon dressing, saucissons and andouillettes (sausages). You can also find some fluffy fish dumplings (quenelles) and excellent praline tarts. Relax and indulge your inner gourmet!
Look for the Roman baths in Lyon
Ancient Roman theatres are an obvious destination for a tourist in Lyon. However, few venture to the nearby ruins of Roman baths behind a modern apartment block. There is little to be seen today, but you can let your imagination loose to see this part of Lugdunum city. The buildings, which stood there, were erected two millennia ago! A nice quiet place for a tet-a-tet with local history.
Toll roads make driving around Lyon more expensive
Many French highways are privately operated. Using such a road may be faster, but it will cost you from €15 to €40. Note that some toll booths don’t accept credit cards, so bring some coins with you. The National roads are free to use. However, by choosing them, you may have to drive some extra miles (and burn more fuel as a result).
