Seville travel tips
Seville metro can be a great commuting option in the summer heat
Although the historic centre of Seville is very small, in the very heat, you can cool off a little in the metro. It was opened in Seville only in 2009 but already covers almost all areas of the city. The metro operates from 6:30 to 23:00 on weekdays and until 2:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. The ticket price is from 1.3 euro, depending on the number of changes.
Drinking in public is allowed in Seville, so you don’t have to head to the nearest bar to have a beer
In Seville, drinking is allowed in public places, which is great news for a budget traveller. Many people buy alcohol in stores (beer from 0.5 euro) and go to the Alameda de Hercules square, enjoying warm evenings and playing street musicians.
Visit the Torre del Oro and the Maritime Museum, which is housed in this tower in Seville
The 37-meter tower Torre del Oro was built in the 13th century on the banks of the Guadalquivir River. Nobody knows now for what reason the tower was named Golden (Oro). According to one version, the name comes from the golden colour of the tiles covering it. According to another legend, it’s because the gold brought from the New World was kept in the tower. Now the tower houses a small Maritime Museum, where you can see ancient navigational instruments. You can also climb to the observation deck. The ticket price is 3 euro, free on Mondays.
