Stand at the place where the first real film was made in Lyon
Lyon was the birthplace of the cinema as we know it. The short film ‘Workers Leaving The Lumière Factory in Lyon’, created in 1895 by the Lumière brothers, is considered to be the first real motion picture. The Institute has a museum telling about the early history of cinema. Besides, it houses daily film screenings, and every October — the Lumière Film Festival. This unusual installation on the bank of the Rhône river is in stark contrast with the nearby historic buildings. Eighty-five giant plastic flowers, each the size of a car door, are clustered together to resemble a real tree. The Korean artist Jeong-Hwa Choi created the tree during the 7th biennial festival of Contemporary Art in Lyon.
