Vigo travel tips
Looking for spectacular views on Vigo, go to Castro park. After a calm stroll among camellias, cedars and pines, find the Castro fortress and climb it. It was built in 1665 during the Portuguese Restoration War in order to protect the city. Actually, it was a defensive place even up to 1809 in the Peninsular War. From the observation towers, you can admire the city of Vigo.
Mercado de la Pedra is a very colourful place to buy fresh vegetables, fruits, seafood, and other delicacies. Even without an aim of shopping, you can go there just to drink sparkling wine with Galician oysters and eat seafood. Buying clothes here, bear in mind that one can find fakes for well-known brands, although some are of high quality.
It would be wrong to leave Vigo without having a picnic on the beach. Buy some wine and Galician tetilla cheese with a mild taste and piquant notes, and have fun. By the way, for a more secluded pastime on the city beach of Vigo, it is better to go there in the morning or afternoon. After 16:00, most locals go there after work.
