A Coruña travel tips

1) Take a walk along the Praza de Maria to feel the spirit of Coruna's old city

Praza de Maria is a spacious square in the city centre with many interesting and historic buildings such as the imposing City Council building, City Hall (a beautiful building in the Art Nouveau style of the early 20th century). You will also see a statue and monument to Maria Pita, who led the city’s defence after Francis Drake besieged it. You can easily access the square on foot from the port area or take about a 10-minute walk from where the cruise ships berth.

2) Don't order Spanish tortilla in Coruna for a morning snack

Spanish tortilla is a potato omelette you may be tempted to order for breakfast. However, while doing so, you will face some strange looks from Spaniards. The tortilla is considered an afternoon snack accompanied by beer rather than breakfast food.

3) Visit the house in Coruna where Picasso lived as a young boy

If you are into art, you might want to visit the small Picasso museum, also a house where he lived for a few years with his father. There you will find examples of the work of the 13-year-old (note that the museum has limited original art holdings — there are mostly reproductions) and learn about the life of the boy and his family. It’s completely free to visit and open 10:30 to 14:00 and 17:30 to 20:00 Tuesday to Sunday. To make the tour more interesting, we recommend taking an audio guide.
