Katowice travel tips
Experience the nightlife of Katowice at Mariacka Street
Mariacka Street, one of the city's central points, is full of bars, cafes, and restaurants. This short (378 metres) street has a long history, dating back to 1895. By day it is a relatively quiet place, where you can come here if you feel hungry. At night the area is bustling with crowds and parties. Most bars are located in the western half, near Mielęckiego street. Restaurants and cafes with a calmer atmosphere dominate the part closer to St. Mary's church.
Go shopping to Silesia City Center in Katowice
Silesia City Center is one of the biggest shopping centres in Poland. It was built on the site of an old coal mine, and the tower that lowered the miners underground has become the symbol of this commercial centre. This 86,000 square metre complex has 12 million visitors each year! Most of its 300 shops offer apparel. Nonetheless, you can also find some electronics, groceries, and other goods. A Cinema City movie complex is among the largest in the region.
When in Katowice, go to the concert at the NOSPR headquarters
The National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio (NOSPR) is one of Poland’s leading orchestras. Its new headquarters was unveiled in 2014 in Katowice. This building, located in the Cultural Zone, is remarkable not only for its architecture. It has a modern, acoustically pristine performance hall, designed in collaboration with world-renowned acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota. More than 1,800 people can enjoy a musical event there.
