Asturias travel tips
Asturias has an amazing cider culture, and you’ll find a lot of sidrerias (cider bars) in this region. The most popular types of cider you can try are natural cider, filtered natural cider, and sparkling natural cider. The best bars where you can try them all are El Cartero (Cienfuegos, 30, Gijón), Lagar Casa Gervasio (Fuente de la Plata, 68, Oviedo), and Casa Lin (Avenida Telares, 3, Avilés).
Most of the locals speak Spanish, but some older people speak the Asturian dialect that is a completely separate language. If you travel along rural villages populated by older people, knowing some Asturian may be handy. For example: Hello - Hola; How much is this? – Cuánto cuesta?; I don't understand – Nun entiendo; Do you speak English? - Fala inglés?
Go there in September to reserve the whole beach for yourself. You’ll find a paid parking run by locals (€2) on top of the cliffs. However, don’t leave your car there if you don’t like walking, as you’ll find free parking a few hundred meters down the road. When you get there, just relax and enjoy the rock formations filled with the most unique and beautiful colours.
