Honolulu travel tips
Take cash and especially small bills to Honolulu
Small bills and coins will be needed when paying for public transport and at the entrance to some national parks. For example, on the territory of the Diamond Head Crater, they do not take bills with a par value above $20 (the price for the entrance is $1 for pedestrians and $5 for cars). You can’t pay by card in both cases. Also, in souvenir shops and small cafes, a lower limit is set when paying by card – so, if you want to buy a small souvenir, you can pay in cash only.
Wander through the sites of military glory in Honolulu – the battleship Missouri or the USS Bowfin
On the deck of the 58-ton battleship Missouri on September 2, 1945, the surrender of Japan was signed, which put an end to the Second World War. In 1988, the ship acquired the status of a memorial museum and became an object for excursions. The USS Bowfin Submarine is part of the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park and allows visitors to get acquainted with the conditions of service and life of the crew during the Second World War.
Try poke in Honolulu – the star of Hawaiian cuisine
The main must-eat in Hawaiian cuisine is poke. It is boiled rice with fresh tuna (Ahi Poke) or octopus (Tako Poke) marinated in spices and sauce. The best place for poke in Oahu is considered to be the small cafe Ono Seafood in Honolulu.
