Katowice travel tips
Exchange money in the airport before going to Katowice
Poland’s main currency is zloty, though some shops and cafes may accept payments in other currencies. The credit card can be used in many places, but you may still need some cash. Exchange offices are not very numerous in Katowice. Besides, you may have to pay a large fee for their services. Don’t fall for offers to exchange money in the street — it is considered a crime! Get some zloty in the airport or at the border.
Tadeusz Kościuszko Park is a nice place to take a walk in Katowice
This old park, created in 1888, has more than 90 species of trees and shrubs. However, diverse plant life and classic English gardens with an avenue of roses aren’t it's only attractions. In Kościuszko Park, you can find the oldest religious building in Katowice — the wooden Church of St. Michael the Archangel, constructed in 1510. Another object of interest is the 35-metre Parachute Tower, in which Silesian scouts tried to defend Katowice from the German troops in 1939.
Have a stroll on the roof of the International Congress Centre in Katowice
The ICC building in the Culture Zone of Katowice is one of Poland’s biggest venues for exhibitions, trade fairs, and conferences. It can accommodate up to 15,000 people at once! The most remarkable thing about ICC is its roof, which functions as a public square. It is largely covered with grass, but, alas, sitting there is forbidden. Still, if you want to have a rest, the area has some curiously shaped wooden benches.
