Take a picture of one of the most photographed sights in Wroclaw on Jatki Street
While rushing through the centre of Wroclaw, you can easily pass this quiet, hidden place without noticing. Most of the historical buildings here date to the 17th and 18th centuries. But the main sight is the bronze statues of farm animals: a goat, two pigs, a rooster, a rabbit and a goose with an egg. Jatki was the town's abattoir, and the Memorial to Slaughtered Animals was erected here in the 1990s to commemorate that fact.
Wroclaw has one of the most unusual Water Towers you’ve ever seen!
The 63m tower, constructed between 1903 and 1904, looks something like a medieval castle. However, it was built for quite a practical purpose — supplying water to southern Wroclaw residents. In the tower’s early days, an electric lift brought visitors to the top for panoramic views. The lucky one could even see the Sudety Mountains 100kms away! Alas, that it’s not an option today. Even so, this building is worth a short ride from the city centre.
Resist the lures of ‘men’s clubs’ in Wroclaw
Wroclaw is generally safe, even for solo travellers. Nevertheless, male tourists should be aware of overly friendly ladies trying to lure them with special offers and free drinks to some shady clubs. Those places have a bad reputation. Gullible foreigners may leave them without money or in no state to walk around the city, full of bridges and channels. Stay safe!
