Flights from Budapest unlock Europe and beyond for less

Budapest is a smart place to start your trip. Sitting in the heart of Central Europe, the Hungarian capital offers a big network of short and medium haul routes plus a growing list of farther afield options, making it easy to find cheap flights from Budapest for city breaks, beach escapes, and business runs.

The city's main airport is compact and efficient, so weekend flights from Budapest are straightforward. You can usually move from curb to gate without fuss, and there is a healthy mix of budget and full service carriers to keep options competitive and flexible.

Kiwi.com helps you surface combinations others miss. Use our Travel Hacks like self transfer, hidden cities, and throwaway tickets to reveal itineraries and prices you might not otherwise see, then filter by time, stops, and bags to lock in what works for you.

Why Budapest is a smart departure hub

From Budapest you can reach most major European capitals in under three hours, and there are nonstop links to key hubs to connect you onward worldwide. Costs in the city are reasonable, airport access is simple, and there is good availability for both advance planners and spontaneous travelers looking for last minute flights from Budapest.

Popular and trending destinations from Budapest right now

A lot of travelers go for classic city pairs because they are frequent and quick. Nonstop flights from Budapest to London take about 2 hours 40 minutes, to Paris around 2 hours 20 minutes, and to Amsterdam roughly 2 hours 10 minutes. These routes are popular for work trips and weekend breaks thanks to multiple daily departures across different carriers, subject to change.

Sun routes trend from spring through autumn. Think Athens around 1 hour 55 minutes nonstop, Barcelona about 2 hours 30 minutes nonstop, and coastal Turkey around 2 hours 15 minutes nonstop, with more seasonal frequencies in summer, subject to change. Travelers pick these for quick access to beaches, islands, and warm weather.

Eastbound choices keep growing. Flights from Budapest to Dubai are around 5 hours 50 minutes to 6 hours 10 minutes nonstop, while Tel Aviv is often about 3 hours 10 minutes nonstop. Istanbul is around 2 hours for those who want a cultural city break or an onward connection on Turkish Airlines. All timings are examples and subject to change.

Nordic and Central European hops are popular for short holidays: Stockholm is roughly 2 hours 15 minutes nonstop and Vienna, Prague, or Krakow are even shorter. People choose these for easy weekends, Christmas markets, and festival trips when fares and crowds vary by season.

Which airlines fly where from Budapest

You will find a mix of low cost airlines for short haul value and full service carriers for connections and premium cabins. Routes and frequencies change seasonally, so always check current schedules before you book.

When to book flights from Budapest for the best value

For many European routes, the cheapest months are often January, February, and parts of November, while late April to early June and September to October are classic shoulder seasons with a good value to weather ratio. Peak summer and major holidays usually price higher, subject to change by route.

A smart booking window for short haul is typically 4 to 6 weeks out. For long haul or peak dates, looking 2 to 4 months ahead can help. If prices look high today, use Set a Price Alert to track a route and get notified by email or push when the fare moves, then pounce when it drops.

If you are flexible, combine multiple cities in one trip with our Nomad Search Tool. Input three or more destinations, add stay lengths and dates, and Nomad will find a cheap overall order for your route. Flexibility also lets our travel hacks like self transfer, hidden cities, and throwaway tickets uncover options you might not see in a standard search.

Booking timing tips at a glance

Watch school holidays and big events at your destination, shift your departure to early week for more options, and consider nearby airports for lower demand, all subject to availability.

Airports and airlines in Budapest explained clearly

Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport carries the IATA code BUD and sits to the southeast of the center. The passenger area uses Terminals 2A and 2B, which handle international flights with carriers grouped by terminal. Facilities include currency exchange, food courts, and duty free, terminal assignments can change, so always follow your booking and the airport monitors.

Reaching BUD is straightforward. The 100E Airport Express bus connects the terminal with Deák Ferenc tér in the city center, usually every few minutes with a typical ride of 35 to 45 minutes depending on traffic and schedule, subject to change. The 200E bus runs to Kőbánya Kispest for the M3 metro, often with frequent service and a travel time around 20 minutes to the metro, then continue into downtown. Taxis and ride apps are widely available and can take 30 to 40 minutes in normal conditions.

Budget travelers will notice strong low cost coverage from Wizz Air and Ryanair. Full service options such as Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, British Airways, LOT, and others link Budapest to major European hubs, with carriers to the Middle East as well. This mix keeps both cheap one way flights from Budapest and flexible round trips on the table.

Kiwi.com can combine separate tickets in one self transfer itinerary to reach places even when airlines do not sell a through ticket. For extra peace of mind, add the Kiwi.com Guarantee which includes automatic check in, 24 or 7 instant chat support, and Disruption Protection if carrier changes affect your trip. If a disruption stops your journey, we will offer instant compensation in Kiwi.com Credit for rebooking or help you apply for airline refunds, all managed online, subject to the terms stated on those pages.

Getting to and through BUD smoothly

Leave a little extra time at peak hours, check which terminal your airline uses the day before departure, and consider the 100E if you want a direct bus into the center without changing lines.

I had to book a ticket at the last minute and it was my daughter-in-law who took over because I am not familiar with computers. I received the reservation but I could not view the ticket and I wanted confirmation that boarding was done directly at the airport because I could not enter the kiwi application to do so. I called customer service who gave me the expected answers and also took care to call me back because the communication was probably cut off due to the network and I was able to have all the necessary elements on friday 5/7 before my scheduled departure on the 6th. /7 to ensure that I was properly registered on this flight and that check-in took place directly at brive la gaillarde airport one last piece of information after booking the ticket on 6/30/2024 it was noted that customer service would call me to confirm this reservation and that I would receive a confirmation email.

Getting from Budapest city center to Budapest airport

Budapest is served by one international airport: Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD), located approximately 16 km southeast of the city center. Travelers heading to the airport from Budapest can choose from several transport options including the dedicated 100E airport express bus, a combination of metro and local bus, taxi, ride-hailing, and private transfer services. Journey times and costs vary depending on the mode of transport, time of day, and traffic conditions. This guide covers the main options for reaching BUD from central Budapest.

Notes:

  • Prices in HUF; table created in 2026 and subject to change.
  • The 100E airport express bus requires a dedicated airport bus ticket (1200 HUF) and does not accept standard BKK single tickets or passes.
  • The Metro M3 plus Bus 200E combination uses a standard BKK single ticket or travel pass and is the most affordable option.
  • Taxi fares in Budapest are metered; only use officially licensed taxis displaying the yellow taxi sign. Ride-hailing prices vary with demand.
  • Road traffic can significantly affect journey times, particularly during morning and evening peak hours.
  • We recommend checking official transport websites for your travel planning.
