Santander travel tips
The Cantabria region in general and the area around Santander in particular offer some great surfing options. You can find the best surf spots along the coast within around half an hour’s drive. El Sardinero, Santander’s main city beach, has a couple of surfing schools. Langre, Somo or El Brusco outside Santander are some other great locations. But, perhaps, the best option is Isla Santa Marina, 40km from the city with large swells and barrel waves. Surf's up!
Seafood is, unsurprisingly, the cornerstone of the local cuisine. The fish and shellfish of the Cantabrian Sea are widely represented in the menus of Santander restaurants. Try famous rabas — fried squids. Local cheeses and veal are also worth your attention.
To see the city and its outskirts from another perspective, take a water tour. The Santander Bay tour will last an hour and cost around €10. While enjoying the views, you may hear stories and legends about different places in the area. A nice way to have a quick look around!
