Santander travel tips

1) See thousand-year-old artefacts at the Prehistory and Archaeology Museum of Cantabria in Santander

The museum boasts 1,200 objects on display. Most of them date from the Upper Palaeolithic to the Iron Age. However, there are also some interesting items from the Roman era and the Medieval Ages. The venue displays ancient treasures in a modern way, using VR goggles and interactive exhibitions. Don’t let the name of the museum discourage you — it's fun to visit!

2) See the old Medieval walls of Santander

The Archaeological Center of the Medieval Wall in the Plaza Porticada was built on the site of Puebla Nueva, the old medieval village. Here you can see remnants of the 12th-century wall, paved streets, and towers. Feel the vibes of the local history!

3) Go to the El Capricho villa by Antoni Gaudi near Santander

Antoni Gaudi was a famous architect, who designed the Sagrada Família in Barcelona. El Capricho villa is one of his few works outside the Catalonia region. It was built in 1883-85 as a summer resort for a wealthy client. The building is a great example of Modernism in architecture. Like other Gaudi’s buildings, the villa looks otherworldly, reminiscent of a Lego creation. It may well be worth a 60km trip from Santander!
