Boise travel tips

1) Relax in a riverside park

The Julia Davis Park covers 43 acres right next to the Boise River and has plenty of fun things to do on its grounds, including several museums, a zoo and paddle boats to rent. This beautiful park was created in memory of Julia by her husband. The park is open from 07.00 a.m. till midnight every day. There is also the Jim Hall Foothills Learning Centre to visit, too, which educates visitors about the importance of the environment and its conservation.

2) Step inside The ‘Pen’

It might seem a strange place to visit, but the Old Idaho Penitentiary was once a prison for 1,300 prisoners. The ‘Pen’ operated between 1872-1973. Wandering into the 30 historic rooms, including cell blocks and solitary, plus seeing the gallows, certainly give you an insight into life as an inmate there. You have the chance to hear many of the stories about the prisoners and their crimes and see some of their handicrafts. The ‘Pen’ is said to be the most haunted place in Idaho — so be warned!

3) Plan a really relaxing day

Just ten minutes outside the city, there is the perfect place for a day’s relaxation — Boise Lucky Peak State Park, which is situated at the end of the Boise Greenbelt. Having said that, the park offers plenty of fun activities, too — kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. There is volleyball, in-line skating, and disc golf. The numerous shady picnic areas make it the perfect choice for a full day!
