There is a good variety of animals and birds to see at Zoo Boise. The zoo comprises many different themed areas dedicated to butterflies, sloths, and other fascinating animals. Other features include Giraffe Encounters and the Conservation Cruise, plus different daily presentations about the various animals. There is a children’s farm, too, where there is the chance to feed the goats, llamas, and sheep. The zoo has regular special events throughout the year.

Idaho has the nickname ‘the gem state,’ so it is not surprising that it has a Museum of Mining and Geology that gives a fascinating account of the area’s rich mineral deposits. There are plenty of beautiful specimens on display, including fluorescent minerals and fossils. There are maps and valuable information about where to find and how to identify the different minerals for yourself. The museum is situated next to the Old Pen at 2455 Old Penitentiary Rd.
