Bratislava travel tips
Add Bratislava’s Devin castle, on the Slovakia/Austria frontier, to your itinerary
Devin castle is a nice place for a pleasant stroll. As it is located on the high cliff over the Danube and Morava rivers. Being a frontier between Slovakia and Austria, this place offers a view at once on both countries. The place is situated in Devin, the borough of Bratislava, but it’s still only 12 km away from the centre of Bratislava. Mind that entry is available in case of good weather conditions.
Try medovníky – gingerbread, known far beyond Bratislava
You can try medovníky at many street stalls in the city centre. These nicely decorated gingerbread cookies are also often bought as souvenirs.
Do not talk much about the Czech Republic when speaking to locals
Yes, Prague is also a beautiful city, but Slovaks don’t like mentioning it because of the Velvet Divorce that divided Slovakia and the Czech Republic in 1993. Just the way you won’t wax lyrical about Barcelona in Madrid, don’t mention Prague when speaking to Bratislava residents.
