Palma, Majorca travel tips
Check historical vibes of Palma
Located about 2.5 kilometres from the city centre of Palma, on Carrer Camilo José Cela street, you will find The Castell De Bellver. It is a must-see for people who do not like long museum excursions so much. The Castell De Bellver is the only circular castle in Spain. It used to be a Royal residence and was later reconstructed into a prison. Pay attention to the intact graffiti on the walls carved by French prisoners of war. The castle also houses the principal museum and is often used for concerts. Do not plan your visit on Sundays, since the castle is closed.
Save energy and ride the red train in the city of Palma
If you are tired but still crave seeing all sights, it is not a problem in Palma. The famous old wooden train, called the Red Arrow, runs between Palma and Soller. The train leaves from Palma 5 times a day, and the ticket costs 12,50 euro one way and 19,50 round trip. You can ride along a narrow track built over 80 years ago. The trip takes 50 minutes through picturesque surroundings — old tunnels (about 10 of them on the way) and beautiful forests.
Use menu del dia options in Palma for affordable meals
If you do not feel like spending much money in cafes, look for boards announcing 'Menu del Día', a three-course menu which will cost between €9 and €12, including a bottle of wine. On Plaça Major, you can find many cafes with this option, and they are all pretty nice.
