Granada travel tips
The Spanish Inquisition existed in the 15th-19th centuries to enforce Catholicism. Non-believers were persecuted and tortured. There are two exhibitions at the 16th-century Palacio de los Olvidados (‘the Palace of the Forgotten’). One displays torture instruments used in Spain and Europe during the times of the Inquisition. The other is less gloomy and is devoted to flamenco. Discover the world of famous dance and enjoy a great show!
The Madraza, founded in 1349, was the first university in Granada. Many remarkable local philosophers, doctors, politicians, poets studied or taught here. The Moorish style of the building was changed to Baroque in the 16th-18th century as the Christian monarchs took over. However, some remnants of the Nasrid-era decorations are still visible. Nowadays, Madraza is a part of the University of Granada and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts headquarters.
There are 33 private and 23 public car parks in Granada. The latter are usually cheaper. The city has some free parking, but it is difficult to find it vacant, especially in the city centre. Some areas in historic neighbourhoods are restricted to private traffic. Parking in the suburbs and using the urban bus may be a good idea. Granada has a well-developed public transportation system, so you will be able to move around freely.
