Budapest travel tips
Gellert is a 235-meter high mountain offering a wonderful view of the Danube and the whole of Budapest. The mountain was named in honour of the Hungarian saint, Gerard of Hungary, killed by pagans. When you climb the mountain, be sure to pay attention to the church carved into the rock.
Nagy Vasarcsarnok is the main market in Budapest and, perhaps, the only place where all the vendors speak good English. The main edible souvenirs from Budapest are palinka (fruit brandy), salami, paprika, and goose liver (foie gras), which is the tastiest and cheapest in Europe.
Bath parties have become popular in Budapest in recent years. In the evening, the historic baths turn into a real club: DJs play, thermal pools are illuminated by lasers, and visitors dance while standing in the water. From June to September, these parties are held at the Széchenyi thermal complex, and from March to May, they are held at the Lukacs Bath.
