Boston travel tips

1) Boston city centre is easily accessible from the airport by bus

Boston Airport is located just 3 km from the city and is considered one of the busiest in the United States. To get from the airport to the city centre, take bus 448, 459, or CT3. There is also a free SL1 bus service until midnight. It will take you to South Station. Bus tickets cost $1-2.

2) Visit Sam Adams Brewery in Boston

Sam Adams was named so after the Founding Father. It is a major brewing company in Boston, the favourite one among locals. They have tours and testing that take place Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 15:00. The admission is free, though it’s customary to leave a small donation.

3) Boston and the surrounding area have their own Smooth unit of length

The Smooth measure of length, approximately 1.7 m, was invented by MIT students in the 1950s and named after a freshman who tried to get into the student fraternity. As a test, the students measured the Harvard Bridge connecting Boston to Cambridge with that guy, concluding the bridge is 364.4 Smoot + one ear. The markings are still painted on the bridge.
