Syracuse travel tips
Spend all day in a barn of books!
Not far away from the Buttermilk Falls on Route 13, you will see a red barn with a sign outside that states simply ‘Books’ — what an understatement! This old barn has been converted into a huge archive of books and literature, and people love to spend hours just relaxing there with a good book!
Enjoy some good cider!
Beak and Skiff is well-known for its 1911 Hard Cider. This isn’t the only reason to visit as it has been voted the best apple orchard in the country. The farm has been growing apples for more than 100 years. Visitors can help pick apples in the orchards at harvest time, and if not, they will be tempted with apple pie and cider doughnuts. You can also buy local cheddar cheese at the farm and irresistible homemade fudge. There are plenty of opportunities to sample the cider, and it is the ideal place for families as there is a play area, too.
Step back in time
If you are going to the New York State Fairgrounds, watch out for the Daniel Witter Agricultural Museum. The museum opened in 1928 and is regularly upgraded. It tells the story of the state’s agricultural development and its importance. Daniel Parrish Witter was one of the area’s biggest dairy farmers.
