Getting from Addis Ababa airport to the city center

Addis Ababa is served by Bole International Airport (ADD), the main gateway to Ethiopia and a major hub for East Africa. The airport lies approximately 8 km southeast of the city center, making airport transfers to city center destinations relatively quick. Transport options include taxis, ride-hailing services, minibuses, hotel shuttles, and private transfers. Journey times vary depending on traffic conditions, which can be significant during peak hours in the capital.

Notes:

  • Prices in ETB; table created in 2025 and subject to change.
  • Traffic in Addis Ababa can be heavy, especially during morning and evening rush hours. Allow extra time during peak periods.
  • Yellow taxis at the airport have fixed rates; always agree on the fare before departure.
  • Ride-hailing apps require local SIM card or WiFi connection to function.
  • Public minibuses do not go directly to the airport terminal; you may need to walk from the main road.
  • We recommend checking official transport websites for your travel planning.
